It’s November 1, so that means the start of NaNoWriMo—National Novel Writing Month. If you haven’t heard of it, shame on you. But well, for the entire month, the goal is to write a novel—50,000 words in 30 days.
I’m participating for the second year in a row. I failed last year. No where close to 50,000 words. Not even 10,000. But I’m having a go at it again this year. The winning would be awesome, but I mostly like the fact that I push myself to make time to be creative. This year rather than a novel, I’m working on short stories. We’ll see how well that works out.
The best part about doing NaNo is that I’m not doing it alone. Both Abby and Erin, two amazing bloggers I got to meet at the 20sb Summit, are participating and we’re cheering each other on as we write this month. In fact, we already set a goal that the three of us will pass 2000 words tonight! I’m at just over 1300, so it should be doable. I’m just hoping that if I start out strong, I’ll continue with this for the rest of the month.
Another thing happening this month is NaNoBloMo—which I never really got. National Novel Blogging Month? Honestly, I think these people should just stick with Katherine’s BEDS (Blog Every Day in September). But well, NaNoBloMo, despite it’s sort of dumb name is the attempt to blog once a day for the entire month of November. And as crazy as it sound since I’m already doing NaNoWriMo, I’m going to try BloMo too.* I figure writing is writing. And I’m hoping getting my fingers and brain warmed up with some blogging will make it easier to keep up with the more creative writing too. Developing habits and all.
This also means we’ll get to the 500th blog post giveaway much quicker! Well, it’ll happen Monday if all goes accordingly.
Anyone else doing either NaNo? Which one? What’s your word count? Tell me about your story! And if you want to be my writing buddy, look me up as AdorkableMe!
*Normally I just call this NaNo… So much easier. But if I’m doing both, guess it’ll be WriMo and BloMo. Which, ha, BloMo is so much more fun to say.
**EDIT: Apparently it’s not NaNoBloMo… it’s NaBloPoMo.. National Blog Posting Month… Which makes more sense. I still like the idea of calling it BloMo though.
