Holiday Girls' Night [sponsored post]

For the longest time, holidays have mainly been family-only-centric events. It make sense. This is the time you get together and stuff your faces full of amazing home-cooked foods and, you know, put up with each other for many hours on end. (I kid. I love my family and wish I could spent more time than just the holidays with them. There’s just so many of them it’s hard to get equal time with everyone.)

But this year, I sort of want to honor another family of mine. One made not through our shared DNA traits or the legalities of marriage. This year I want to do something special for my friends. And, well, as much as I’d love to, I don’t think I could fit an entire marching band in my little apartment… so, I’m thinking this year starting off by doing something special for some of the lady-friends in my life.

They don’t know this yet, but I’m going to invite a small handful of my female friends over to my place for a holiday cookie decorating-slash-cheesy holiday movie night*. With wine of course. And maybe peppermint schnapps. But mainly for the cookies! (I don’t care what season it is, put some gingerbread (or snickerdoodle) cookies in front of me and I will go to town.**)

When I lived in Evanston, my roommates and I had a nice girls-night-in before Christmas. We exchanged our gifts, decorated gingerbread houses, sang along to holiday cds, and well, just had an awesome time. Just replacing the gifts with booze, gingerbread houses with gingerbread squirrels and moose, and holidays cds with movies. Should be just as awesome.

*I’m absolutely not calling Elf a cheesy holiday movie. I love Elf. And yeah, we’ll probably watch it too. But I’m talking about those movies you won’t admit to liking to anyone, but secretly love watching–you know, everything made for ABC Family.
**Seriously. You’d think I was an elf if you knew how my sweet-tooth can get.
