July Reads

Compared to last month’s “meager” 1 comic for the entire month… I did pretty well this month! Still not to where I was at the beginning of the year, but at least I’m actively reading.

Short Stories & Novels

The One by Kiera Cass – Perfect choice for getting back into my TBR list and reading habit. Read it all in one day, but it didn’t feel overwhelming or anything. Just a nice light read that I could lose hours in, put it down, and easily come back to later in the day to finish. Was it perfect? No. Did some of the ending feel rushed? Yes. But it was definitely an enjoyable read.

Cress by Marissa Meyer – Ok. While this series has been fun… there’s just a lot of storylines and people happening here. Part of me is ok with it, because Meyer makes it work.. But it took a bit for this story to get going, and I was wondering if they could have edited it down some to keep the pace going better. One last book to finish this one out.

Ruin & Rising by Leigh Bardugo – I had really enjoyed the other two books in this series. Sadly it had been a while since I had read them, so it took me a little bit to remember what all happened. I might go back sometime and re-read them. However, I will say there’s been a lot of disappointment about this book. I honestly, I didn’t think it was that bad or was that upset by what Bardugo chose to do.

Comics & Graphic Novels

Ms. Marvel #6: Healing Factor by G. Willow Wilson – WHY ARE YOU NOT READING THIS SERIES YET? Seriously. I have been loving this new launch of Ms. Marvel and have been really happy with how G. Willow Wilson and her team have been taking it. It’s really awesome seeing something in it’s infancy (even though the Ms. Marvel character has already been established for a good while, Kamala is definitely new on the scene. And her Ms. Marvel is just amazing.) This series keeps getting better and better. I especially love when Kamala fangirls. It’s just a fun reminder that despite being a super hero, she’s still a teenager too. Or really, she’s a nerd like us.

My goal this year is to read 50 books. According to Goodreads, I have read 35 books and am 7 books ahead of schedule.
